Yes, I guess they do... But the girls are already bigger and whenever he tries to be the big guy and puts his neck feathers up, the girls do the same and silly makes a runner. At the food bowl it's the same, first the girls and when they loose interest he can sneak in. Like real life... :help:

Today so had to rescue the chickens from an 0.75m long olive python. The snake was in one corner of the run, the chickens in the opposite. :-D

To calm them down afterwards they got a big bowl of cooled watermelon leftover... ;-)

Did you know that chicken can get brain freeze when they eat chilled watermelon... like humans when they eat slushies or ice cream...

The chickens were gulping down the watermelon pieces when one after the other started to put there feathers up like goose bumps and started shaking like a wet dog trying to dry his fur... sounds weird, looked better while it was happening.

We parted from our rooster yesterday, he was just to rough on the girls, biting their necks and pulling them around. His morning vocals didn't support an extension on his stay either as we had to put him in a seperate enclosure which was a lot closer to the house. ;) So he became a freebie on gumtree...

But the girls are much better now, the run extension will be started next week, i got a dingo to drill all the fence post holes already on order. That will give them another 40sqm run in addition to the existing 15sqm.

we just got our first egg... unexpected early after 4 months... But still a great result, luckily I found it this evening. I was just locking the chook shed as we have taken in a stray dog which was running around on the highway and I didn't want to trust her in the first night that much. ;)

Another 2 today... one in the nesting box, the other one outside, exactly were i found the first two... in front of the feeder... maybe they eat until the egg shoots out... :D

The have to stay inside tomorrow for worm treatment, maybe that gets them used to the nesting boxes.

One of the chickens is eggsaggerating with her eggs... 76g... it didn't fit into the carton and i had to put 2 small ones next to it in the egg cooker to make it fit.

We are thinking about giving 2 of the 7 to a mate, because at the moment we are getting 4 eggs a day from 4 layers, when the other 3 are starting to lay we will drown in eggs...

Placing golf balls into the nest boxes did really work, in the first days we found eggs in the run, but now the share one nesting box.

Hey Charlie...

That's OK, I don't need an answer every time... I sometimes like talking to myself, it feels like home... :-D
