The first 5 are relocated into their new home and most of them started picked at food right away. 2 even took a unintentional bath and went straight under the heater. There are lots of pebbles in the water to stop them from drowning.

I can see another 5 eggs which are piped.

End of day 17 and 22 out of 39 have hatched... Far better than expected, let's wait another day.

It was not a very quiet day because the thermometer in the cage gave me a false reading and i thought it was too cold for them so i checked every couple of hours to see whether they behave stressed etc.

So, the final count is 26 out of 39, i think 66% is a good result, i got told to be happy with 50%.

Charlie, sure we have named them, Butterflied 1 to 10, Stuffed 1 - 10 and breeders. ;)

Next weekend we get another 24 Quail and 12 Indian Game Cross eggs

The first flight feathers are already visible... Cute... And it looks like someone is making popcorn when you look in the cage, all that jumping around.

The quail are now 4 weeks old, here are some pictures from last week.

We also have 12 new ones which hatched over the last 2days which brings us to a total of 37 quail, can't wait to taste one or two (or three).

They have a mild case of OCD... When i went to the enclosure today, two brown ones were in the sand pit, two white ones sitting next to sand pit, two tuxedo quail were running towards the pit, they sort themselves by colors. :D

Another 3 weeks and 5 of the biggest girls will move into the breeders enclosure together with one of the males and i am putting 12 eggs from a different bloodline into the incubator this week and a boy from that batch will be a breeder as well.
