Yeah well as much as they are lovely birds they have not been welcome here since they killed a baby bandicoot and left it for dead. Nice for a visit but don't want them camping on my turf, they were introduced here. :x

Created a new vista today as I was preparing for the snake and bushfire season. The view from the fire break at the rear of the property looking through the fig trees to the chicken pen.

Apparently Tia wasn't liking the wet weather the other day as I discovered her sitting on the arm of the chair with a sad face waiting to be let inside.

Awesome day today starting with the discovery of Patsys babies arriving overnight. Will try and get a head count tomorrow.
Went for a walk in the bush and found a patch of donkey orchids as well as a spider orchid and cowslips.

The sunny weather sees the reptiles on the move as well as this Australian Admiral butterfly. This species is attracted to the stinging nettle in my gardens and has been busy laying eggs. The nettle is a protected species in my garden and we are hoping to increase the numbers here as food plants to get more butterflies. It seems to be working.

Time spent in the garden is never wasted as it is great therapy. This week we managed to get a new grapevine trellis up. Yay. The garden is really responding to the time and effort spent on it.

Been busy planting strawberries after being given about 50 plants. Urgent raised bed filled with layers of bonfire sand with ash, pig, rabbit, sheep and chicken manures, vege mix, newspapers and lupin straw.
What an exhausting day, at least I don't need a gym membership this week.
I have been reading up on how much a family of four requires and I am a long way short at this point. Just have to keep planting I guess. Going fruit tree $hopping tomorrow which I will expect to take my fruit and nut producing trees to 50, yay!

Fruit tree shopping on a Saturday? Tass1trees by any chance?

Also just wanted to let you know Faye that all the wild rabbits around here are dying while still looking fat and healthy so I assume we are entering a Calicivirus epidemic, so make sure your mosquito proofing is up to scratch for the bun buns.

Thanks for the heads up on the rabbits Simo. Mozzies are a bit of a problem but we are doing our best. I shopped yesterday actually and did a good job so have a few more holes to dig as well as another trellis to install. Will have to get the whip on Eddy for that. No rest on Sundays here I'm afraid.
