Winter ended late over here in CT and its still chilly in April. August is the hottest summer month and September is that buffer month between fall and spring. Will I have time to grow them?

I would think you have plenty of time, especially for tomatoes. Not being familar with your climate, is warm enough to geth them out of the ground now, that will be the challenge.

April has been so unseasonally warm here I have a whole new crop of self seeded tomatoes come up, some are a foot tall and flowering!!

Eggplant would be similar to tomatos. Go for it!! Afterall, what are you going to lose, a few seeds.
